"

Hello, World! Let me tell you a little bit about myself.

"

I'm from Portland Oregon, where I grew up and went to Wilson High school. I played Football and Basketball as a kid, wrestled one year, but then had a winter job working with the Blazers as a team attendant. I enjoyed Snowboarding on Mt Hood, Cheering for the Blazers, and the local swimming pool in the summer. I graduated foom Wilson HS in 2002, and attended Oregon State University.

I’ve always been a very curious person, and this curiosity led me to learn about the world of microorganisms 🔬 in college where I studied Microbiology and Chemistry. After college, my curiosity led me to learn the art of Home brewing 🍺, and I got hired to work at Full Sail Brewing as the role of quality control / quality assurance. Full Sail is located in the town of Hood River, which has world class sailing conditions. I learned to windsurf, and also joined the team of a 40ft sailboat ⛵ for weekly Wednesday night races.

My love for windsurfing brought me to Maui, the Valley island 🏝️. I was fortunate enough to find work with the Count of Maui Water Dept. as a Water Microbiologist. The wind and the water on Maui are amazing for wind sports.

Now I was introduced to waves, and my interest moved towards surfing 🏄. Surfing is such a challenging activity, but once you've put the work in to learn, it can really pay off when you catch the wave of the day!

Then in March of 2015, I became curious about web development, and I couldn’t be happier! I only wish I’d found this much earlier in life, but better late than never. After three years of working full time, and learning to code in my spare time (20+ hours a week), I quit my job and set out to begin my career in web development.

Check out my more detailed description of my learning to code story, and some work examples.

My interest in web development and coding is pointing me towards other computer science aspects, such as Machine Learning, and analyzing large data sets. My future goals and aspirations now include learning more Python libraries, Math, and high speed computing.
